VCF Mestalla player Molina dedicates goal to late grandparents

The centre back scored for the team against UE Olot, and remembered family members who passed away last summer

A goal from a VCF Mestalla player this past weekend featured a special dedication from the scorer, as Guillem Molina paid tribute to two family members.

The game had gone into halftime with the Valencia CF second team 0-2 down against UE OLot. After the restart, it took just four minutes for the team to react. Esquerdo sent in a corner that Molina, upfield from centre back, rushed in to head home.

The player immediately held his arms aloft to dedicate the goal to two of his grandparents, who had passed away last summer and with whom he had a close relationship.

The young defender from Tarragona remembers his grandmother and grandfather with special affection, and is considered to have the same character as the latter. They were pivotal in allowing him to attend both school and training sessions, as both of Molina's parents worked.

Both grandparents were able to watch him play for VCF Mestalla, and even through his illness Molina's grandfather would regularly contact him to ask about his progress with the team.

Guillem Molina is in his sixth season at the VCF Academy and has played a starting role in 12 games, featuring for 1,074 minutes thus far this term. The goal at the weekend, in the eventual draw with UE Olot, was his first for the club, only adding to the significance of the celebration.
